Entrance into the 1st year
Entrance is made through a competitive jury examination.
Students are recruited after having registered for and passed a competitive entrance examination open to all students who have finished their secondary school studies and obtained the Baccalauréat or equivalent French or foreign diploma or who are in the last year of lycée (high school).
The admissibility committee enables students who have not obtained a baccalauréat, but who can demonstrate proof of a personal artistic practice and background, to pass the jury examination.
Competitive entrance examination
The entrance examination consists of two phases:
. a written examination on general cultural knowledge,
. a written language test (English or Spanish),
. A subject to be treated artistically
. an interview of the candidate with a jury based on his/her portfolio and the imposed artistic subject.
The personality, creativity and artistic potential of the candidate are the decisive criteria for acceptance.
Registration for the entrance exam and the admissibility committee takes place each year from January to March.
The admissions committee is intended for students who have done one or more years of studies in a school of higher education in the arts under the aegis of the "Ministère de la culture".
Entrance into an ongoing curriculum is conditional upon presentation before a committee composed of teachers of the school during which the candidate presents a portfolio of art work. ECTS credits for all precedent years are indispensable for admission.
Equivalent qualifications committee
The equivalent qualifications committee is intended for French students who are registered in a teaching curriculum other than that of one of the schools of higher education in the arts, as well as for foreign students who have already done studies in another country. For foreign candidates, the application must be translated into French and certified. Age requirements have been set for admission to EBABX. Registration for the equivalent qualifications committee takes place each year between January and March. A second session of committee interviews for entrance into the first year of the Master program takes place in September for students registered in another school of art accredited by the Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication.
The procedure for entering into the master program
Students who wish to enter the Master program must present an application which includes:
. a portfolio accompanied by a text, which sets out an overview of their work,
. a note of intent which presents future directions for development of their work in the Master program as well as their territory of research for the Master’s thesis.
Candidats who wish to integrate the 2nd cycle must have proof of deliverance of a DNAP in one of the French schools or of an equivalent diploma (with acquisition of 180 ECTS attesting to the three previous years of study). Internal requests (from recipients of a DNAP from EBABX) and external requests (students who have obtained a DNAP from another school or an equivalent diploma) are examined by a Committee for admission into the 2nd cycle. This committee includes teachers from the 2nd cycle from either Art or Design accordingly, chosen by the director, of which at least one holds a PhD.
The committee establishes a pre-selection after examination of applications from outside the school and selected candidates are then summoned for an interview.
Internal requests are examined based on applications along with the detailed opinions of ARC and theory teachers who taught the students in the first cycle. Only candidates requiring further examination are summoned for an interview.
The committee’s criteria are:
. the student’s academic record,
. his/her level and ability to successfully pass a DNSEP (Master equivalent) jury examination.
The committee’s decision for admission or refusal is communicated by the director.
